Our Methods
We will create an interactive, universally accessible, multimedia Internet hub, to tell the stories of Americans with disabilities through text, video clips, audio clips, and photographs. Stories are searchable, and grouped not by type of disability, but rather, by common experience.
We will create and effectively distribute public service announcements and short- and long-form documentaries, both for television and radio, as well as print ads. These will be distributed to the mainstream media. Some will be placed pro bono; others will be paid. All media markets in the United States will ultimately be covered. Viewers, listeners, and readers will be directed to the interactive website to take further action. Target audience will be average Americans, and Americans with disabilities alike.
We will create an online community on the website, through bulletin boards, blogs, social networking technologies, and story submission. As momentum grows, these online communities will allow Americans with disabilities to form local groups throughout the nation, as well as an annual national convention. The goal of these local groups will be to foster unity, promote positive media portrayals of people with disabilities, and challenge negative portrayals on a local level. The website will also feature user-submitted resources and stories to help in this national, bottom-up effort.
